maybe a darker text color, like the green in matrix

second one hmmm not really likeing the tips of the maple leaf
put it in a new layer
use magic wand to select outide of it, invert selection, fill it with the main color
then use a circle transparency gradient on it with center opaque
that should leave the fade-out effect, but make it fade to the background
